    1. Close TaxCut if it is open.
    2. If you are installing this update from a diskette, insert the Update Program 1.1 diskette in drive A of your PC (or drive B).
    3. Do one of the following:
      • Windows 3.1 users: From the Program Manager, choose Run from the File menu.
      • Windows 95 users: Click the Start button, and then click Run.
    4. In the Run dialog, type the directory path to the location of the Update Program file and UPDMA961.EXE, and then click the OK button. For example:
      • Diskette installation: Type A:\UPDMA961.EXE and then click the OK button.
      • Download installation: Type C:\TEMP\UPDMA961.EXE and then click the OK button.
    5. Read the instructions that appear in the message box, and then click the OK button to continue.

      The WinZip Self-Extractor dialog appears. The default installation directory is C:\TAXCUT96. If you installed TaxCut on a different drive or in a different directory, enter the correct directory path in the Unzip to Directory box.

      Note: You must install the update program files in the same directory that you installed the TaxCut 1996 program files.

    6. Make sure the option, When Done Unzipping Run: Update.Bat, is checked. If it is not checked, click the option name to select it.
    7. Click the Unzip button.
      The Update Program unzips and installs the program files on your hard drive.
    8. When the Update Program completes the installation, click the OK button to run the update procedure.
      The Update Program begins. This may take several minutes depending upon your PC's processor speed. The program will indicate when it has completed the update procedure by displaying the message: Patch is finished updating TaxCut 96. Press any key to continue....
    9. Do one of the following:
      • Windows 3.1 users: Press any key to exit and close the window.
      • Windows 95 users: Click the Close button (marked x in the upper, right corner of the window).

      The Update Program closes and returns you to the desktop.
